Playwright and author ("It's Never Been Easy: Essays on Modern Labor")
writes in the Huffington Post. Does anyone here follow the Huffington Post? Macaray acknowledges that Pete was one of the best to ever play the game, but says NO to the Hall of Fame.
Why? because Pete was a compulsive gambler, because he accepted a "life time " ban back in the day and because he lied!
Now compare that assesment with some of todays Politicians.
What harm has Pete ever brought upon the law abiding public?
The following "Pete's" should be allowed into the HOF, before Pete Rose: Pete Pihos, Peter Boyle, Pete Boychuck, Pete Dawkins, Peter Cottontail, Pete Rozelle, Peter Paul Almond Joy, Peter Piper and Pete Moss!
The guy knew the rules, knew what the penalty was and still he chose to bet on baseball. It sucks it happened to the "all-time leader in hits" but he broke the rules! He bet on the game of baseball and it took him over 20 years to admit it. I do hear he is a nice guy though.
...and Saint Peter also Cooker. Pete broke the rules? This is why I made an analogy with Politics (Pea is for Politics). He bet on baseball? Oh my goodness! What an offense. Do you follow the lying scheming people in politics? Bottom line...he has more hits than anyone who has ever played the game, he has lead his teams to at least 3 World Series Victories and you say because he bet he should be banned?
