White Suburban Kids are the Largest Buyers of Hip Hop...
Do you like Hip Hop ??? Do your kids ?
Some people say that Hip Hop is the 21st Century version of Folk Music...yep.
(Hip hop arose during the 1970s when block parties became common in New York City, especially the Bronx. Block parties were usually accompanied by music, especially funk and soul music. The early DJs at block parties began isolating the percussion breaks to hit songs, realizing that these were the most dance-able and entertaining parts; this technique was then common in Jamaica and had spread via the substantial Jamaican immigrant community in New York City, especially the "godfather" of hip hop, DJ Kool Herc.)

Another strange tradition in baseball...
Along with overweight, aging coaches in full uniforms comes this observation of a baseball tradition that I just don't get.
When a pitching change is obvious, why is it necessary for the head coach (manager) to struggle his way out to the pitcher's mound just to take the ball from one guy (the pitcher being replaced) and hand it to the next guy (the one coming into the game)? Can't they just use that phone and say, "Hey Dawson, send in the lefty."

Do you do Vitamin D3 ?
The use of sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 8 inhibits more than 95% of vitamin D production in the skin.[14][31] Recent studies showed that, following the successful "Slip-Slop-Slap" health campaign encouraging Australians to cover up when exposed to sunlight to prevent skin cancer, an increased number of Australians and New Zealanders became vitamin D deficient.[17] Ironically, there are indications that vitamin D deficiency may lead to skin cancer.[32] To avoid vitamin D deficiency dermatologists recommend supplementation along with sunscreen use.

"The Cooker" returns to the stage in Flourtown!
This just in...the McKendry Bros. (with Rick Holland) returned to their tour of Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown last night with an appearance at Halligan's Pub. The night marked Michael's return to show biz since his incredible surgery on APRIL 11. That's right, in less than TWO MONTHS he was back hittin' 'em with that "Scotch n' Soda" and other classic hits. It was an acoustic show and after a brushing away a few moths from the lingering anesthesia, "the Cooker" could be heard hitting all the high and low notes he's become known for over the years. Welcome back Cooker!!!

I'm putting myself on notice!
Some of you may read this post and say to yourself, "Self, these PEA's are off their rockers..." or "The PEA don't fall far from the tree." Well, I am here to say that I officially don't give a crap. I am officially putting myself on notice!
I am becoming one of those guys who says "Well, it's only a few pounds..." Then a month later it is, "Well, it's only a few more pounds"... the next thing I know, I am the guy huffing and puffing when walking up the steps. I am the guy who is sweating while on the train.
I have started my training program. I am blogging about it. Go here if you are interested: http://rehabthispea.blogspot.com/
If you are not interested, do me a favor and punch yourself in the face for me. Adios, see you on the rehab trail.
BTW: The picture is a fake, but that is what i feel like...

Then & Now
Princess Homecoming graduates this week and our house has been inundated with invitations to graduation parties. Got me thinking of my graduation gift. Mother and Dad got me an AM/FM portable radio. Probably 10" X 8" X 2 ". Listened to it all summer cementing basements in North Philly with Mike Galvin. Used it for years. Worked great on the dash of my '58 Chevy too. Got all the new FM stations loud and clear.
Gerry brought me home a Seiko watch from Viet Nam. Self winding, 17 jewels. Still have it. Still works. Had the crystal replaced 25 years ago. 8 years ago a jeweler saw it on my wrist and said, "One of the best watches ever made. Don't ever get rid of it." The jeweler was a Russian guy from Rochester Hills, MI named Effem . How's that for a name? He honestly offered me a "cheap" used Rolex for it. 40 years and still ticking. Thanks Pea.
The rest of you must have stiffed me, I can't remember getting anything from you. Not too late to make up for it. You have my address. Don't send a watch; I have one. Don't send an AM/FM, have one of those too. Don't send a Work Sharp have one.
