Another strange tradition in baseball...

Along with overweight, aging coaches in full uniforms comes this observation of a baseball tradition that I just don't get. When a pitching change is obvious, why is it necessary for the head coach (manager) to struggle his way out to the pitcher's mound just to take the ball from one guy (the pitcher being replaced) and hand it to the next guy (the one coming into the game)? Can't they just use that phone and say, "Hey Dawson, send in the lefty."

MLB Rule is that the Manager has to replace the Pitcher! Some of them need one of those riding carts where Medicare (MAY) pay for it !

Why do they exchange lineups?

Yo... Weirdos!! This shows the Humanitarian side of baseball. I remember the olden days with St. Ambrose. "Big Jack", the manager, would always say as he left the bench, "I'm gonna go get him before one of those rockets they're launching , hits him and kills him". This was normally completed 20 minutes before one Edward "Blaze"??? "ran the bases".
This is a tradition we must keep.
