August Sun

...has anyone ever looked up the definition or History of August and how it came to be the 8th Month of the Calendar year?  Me neither... Any "Landmark" Family events/Birthdays/Weddings/Births/Divorces/driving school experiences/summer school stories/Philadelphia Phillies meltdowns or Eagle Summer Camp stories to relate? Or maybe even a story about a BAD Sunburn under the August Sun?

Flourtown Golf

Every once in a-while we need to re-visit Posts that are not interesting to anyone other than the people in the youtube video...BUT! I did view this Youtube video today and there was one comment...from someone in Chicago! What kind of life did that person have that they made a comment on this video in 2007?

I have had some injuries in my life but I had no clue what an Oblique Strain is...

Internal oblique muscles – these flank the rectus abdominus and are ... the left side internal oblique and the right side external oblique to contract together. ... You can strain your abdominal muscles from overstretching or overuse. ."

Even during the after game show, Ricky Bo tells us he had an "oblique" injury in his time in the Big Leagues but he does not tell us what an oblique injury is!  I was thinking it had to do with the Thigh area or the Hip area...was any one else as Clueless as me?

Oh yea...Shane Victorino strained his oblique muscle in tonights victory & had to leave the Game.

You know what I like to do?

When my bill is $14.00 and I give the cashier a $20.00 and they bring out that PEN & swipe my $20?
  • my change is $6.00 ?
  • I ask to borrow their PEN
  • Why?  they ask
  • So I can check out if the change is Legit
  • I say...

Jason's Montco Squad Falls to Delco in Devastating Heat!

Delco, with a squad of well-conditioned athletes,  scored 7 runs in the final two innings to once again defeat
the "stone handed" Montco team, 16-13. Jason's two Home Runs & Luds' 5 for 6 day were not enough to offset the speed & power of the "Chopper & Tattoo Club"  from Delco.
  • With a 109 degree heat index, one of the BIG stories of the day was the play of Montco's (close to 63 year old)  second baseman.
  • Yes Fans, the Cooker managed to toil & inspire his teammates through 8 strong innings.
  • He was "Utleyesque" but to no avail..."his bat speed has somewhat diminished"
  • ...and he was unable to "Poke a Homer"
Photos of the day will, hopefully, follow

While touring Timmy's Silk Sreening/Embroidering Facility on Tuesday

...we discussed our Favorite Candy. Peanut Chews were a favorite of many. I am now 1/4 of the way through a 14oz bag of "mini chews" that I bought yesterday. Thanks Guys!!!
  • By the way, the above photo is not an actual photo of TJ's operation, I took this photo from Flickr.com
  • TJ's operation is much more sophisticated.
I apologize for the lax in reporting. I had my camera with me but once we started talking about Goldenberg Peanut Chews that's all I could focus my thoughts on...

And we think Pennsylvania Politicians are overpaid...

...check these people out...

Below is a Photo of Jason's hyper-active friend, Phil...

Phil is married & has two kids & Phil cannot stand still! The guy can fix or build or design anything! The Project he is working on in this photo is a Replica of the Stanley Cup Trophy to be awarded to the MVP of this coming weekends Montco vs Delco softball game.
  • Phil is a very valuable friend to have...although I have not spoken to his wife about her view on Phil's  "outside interests"
  • Jason tells me that the trophy that the hyper-active Phil has built will weigh approximately 40 lbs.

  • TJ's address is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave...the same place he and Joe hosted the "Beer Summit".

"Cup of Joe" - where does that saying come from?

Here is an explanation I found on the internet. Can you come up with a better one? Josephus Daniels (18 May 1862-15 January 1948) was appointed Secretary of the Navy by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913. Among his reforms of the Navy were inaugurating the practice of making 100 Sailors from the Fleet eligible for entrance into the Naval Academy, the introduction of women into the service, and the abolishment of the officers' wine mess. From that time on, the strongest drink aboard Navy ships could only be coffee and over the years, a cup of coffee became known as "a cup of Joe".

"POLITICS" ...Have you ever donated to a Political Party?

Things are already heating up for the Nov 2010 election when all 435 House Members and about 36 of the 100 Senators are facing the Voters. I am sure that News excites you..!

I have decided to Alter my Persona...

What would you do if you could?...

...One of my brothers asked me that question when we were in the "Pocono Rehabilitation House" together. I said, "nothing". I take my answer back. I would like to write Children's Books from my computer in my basement. Have them illustrated by Jason, edited by Sam & published by "JAZMARK", the publishing company we would launch. I do have more than a few topics in mind.
  • a bird that is afraid of heights & how the bird overcomes its' fear
  • a baby fish that is afraid of deep water
  • a big brother that is jealous of his dogs' attention to his younger sibling
  • compare first day in doggie day care & pre-school opening day
Just some thoughts. Wanted to publicly take back the "nothing" comment.

Coco is freaking out! The heat wave has ended in Roxboro...

I always find the fish!

This past Saturday, the Old Crow and I had our most successful day on the back water bays of Avalon. All in all, a total of fifteen flounders were hooked. Because of the increase in size regulation, only two of the fifteen were "keepers". What an awesome way to spend an afternoon in Avalon. I lit a stogie in honor of Uncle Timmy. See ya on the water! NAPS

Are they a Luxury or a Necessity?
  • How often do you take a NAP ?
I do not remember Mother taking a NAP. I do remember Dad Napping on the sofa, but...
  • That was cause he worked Shift Work & also Bar-tended certain nights
  • He also mowed the Lawn
  • built a porch in "the back"
  • put a new roof on
  • sat on the steps & drank Ortliebs Quarts with some Adult neighbors
  • had 4 older sons that did little
  • had one young son that looked like Jesus
  • ...and serviced his car in the Street & changed "points" a lot
He also had a daughter that was constantly being courted by every Stud in the neighborhood!
  • ME? I have none of those problems, but I do enjoy a Good NAP...

The Grandkid Count has gotten to be Uncountable, But...

The Dog Count is still Countable...
  • The Paul & Alyce Group = 1
  • The John Group = 1
  • The Gerry Entourage = 1
  • The Timmy & Maureen Clan = 9
  • The Michael & Mary "Dog Hater's" = 0
  • The Edwardo and Susan "Empty Nesters" = 2
I count 13 there...how many do you count?

OK...this time is for real...a Real Poker Game...

The Second Annual Poker Challenge...the last one at Michael's Palace was a Poker Joke! Very few knew the game & Fewer Few knew the Rules. How about a Poker Challenge? To enter you must have a lot of Nickels, Dimes & Quarters & most Importantly, know the Game ! The Game should take place in mid-afternoon, somewhere between Roxboro and Pittsboro. And also, Dogs must be permitted to attend...
  • I truly believe that if such a Poker Game were to take place no-one would leave with more Nickels, Dimes or Quarters than me and my Son Jason.
After all, I taught him how to Play the Game...
  • LOL...

What a Holiday Weekend!!!

2 NEW BOYS! A Barbecue today and a Barbecue tomorrow . I bought a new Bird Feeder today (it's a "Sip & Feed") the birds have their choice. So far it has been Hanging outside for 7 Hours & not one Bird has dined there...:(...Woe is me...) I may have wasted $33.00 on a Feeder, Bird seed & Binoculars !!!
  • HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!
I also bought Fabric to cover my Kitchen chairs & Brown spray paint to make my chairs look like New! Sister Alyce made the suggestion when she was here a few weeks ago...(& she has nagged me about my progress ever since)
  • It was a unique X-periance to drive myself to the Fabric Store in Chestnut Hill and inquire about the Benefits of Fabric and the installation of said Fabric...
Now I need to learn the Art of "measurements" and get myself a pair of Shear Scissors
  • Life is a Challenge!

Challenges...

As I sit and look at my new i Mac computer, which has been out of service for the past two weeks (not due to the i Mac) I'm thinking of the Challenges my generation has had to face compared to my parents generation. Tom Brokaw wrote a best seller about their generation. Let's compare...
  • They had to get through the Great Depression. Most of them were too young to understand how dire times were
  • They fought WWII vs Germany & Japan. That was tough!
  • After the War they had to adjust to "color TV"
  • In the mid 50's they had to adjust to the switch from Stick shift to Automatic transmission
  • They had to figure a way to purchase a home worth at least $7,000.00
  • They had to figure a way to pay for their kids Book-bill...tuition was Free
  • They had one phone & it took only seven turns of the dial to call someone
  • They had the luxury of choosing what to watch on TV from THREE choices
  • They also had to deal with the A-Bomb potential...that was scary
Now, I think about what My Generation has had to learn/endure/and figure out
  • Moon landings
  • We have fought the Viet Cong/Chinese/Russians/Serbians/Crazy Middle Easterners
  • Cable TV/remote control/VCR/DVD/DVR/i phone/Donkey Kong/texting/answering machines/call waiting/net-flix/etc...etc...etc...
  • Computers...anyone figure them out yet?
  • GPS/Yahoo/Google/EZ pass/Beach Badges/Facebook/Atari
  • Tuition/Student Loans/Safety Seats/School Lunch Programs/Little League Parents
  • CABLE TV...
  • And Barak Obama!
I could go on. Bottom line? Our generation is putting up a pretty good fight despite what the following generation thinks of our technical skills

Our Interior Secretary...
