Gas Tank Cap Aggravation on the PA Turnpike
Susan and I were driving the East/West PA T-pike yesterday, on our way to Ambler from the Mechanicsburg baby shower. I noticed I needed gas so I pulled into one of the stations on the t-pike. As I pulled up to the tank, I saw a red jeep driving in the wrong direction with, what appeared to be a very aggravated bald guy at the wheel.
I got out, noticed that the credit card system was not working at the pump but I read the note that said, "credit card users please pay inside before fueling. Sorry for the inconvenience." So, I went inside and paid.
When I came outside, I noticed that the same red jeep had turned around and was sitting at a precarious angle, virtually cutting off access to many of the pumps - other cars could not get around him. I was thinking this could be a possible, possible terrorists plot to disrupt the flow of t-pike drivers. I was ready for anything.
I acted like I did not see the red jeep and began filling my tank. When I finished I noticed that the red jeep had pulled up to a pump and the driver was now walking around aimlessly looking down at the ground, walking dangerously in front of any and all cars coming into the pumps. It almost seemed like he couldn't hear the horns beeping at him...
I saw the man bend over to pick up some pieces of shattered black plastic - it really looked like it hurt the man to bend over like that.
As I got in my car, I heard the man talking to his passenger (wife?) - "...somebody ran over the gas tank cap. I am AGGRAVATED! We'll just have to drive without a cap and get a new one tomorrow at PepBoys." (I didn't know PepBoys was still in business...).
Susan and I continued on our journey. I sure hope that aggravated driver had a safe journey home and his little red jeep was ok.
I thought Gerry might like this little story for his blog.

How about if we have a major sporting event without Referees, Umpires, Judges or Stewards? I Love that a 65 to one shot did ...

it was one of those, "you had to have been there moments". SUNOCO and the "people" that ran the station aggravated me! Should have worn my Turban...
When did Jeep move to a gas tank cap. I thought they still used an Army Green Sock. Worked great on MASH!!!
