I had Jury Duty Today & they Kicked Me Out!

Went down to Filbert Street today, across from City Hall. Was there at 8:00AM. Went thru the "body search", the "Orientation", the "Questionnaire" and the "stares"... Got a Lunch Break and left the building..."Big Mistake"! Upon re-entry was Inspected, Wanded, Interrogated and re-Inspected...even though I had a Badge on! We finally get to the Courtroom...they ask us, "anyone have a Disability or a Conflict that would preclude you from sitting for an Armed Robbery Trial that could take 3 weeks"...I say nothing. They put us in a room and call us out one by one to be questioned by the Judge. I get called, am sitting 50' from the Judge (w/my Aids in) and tell him I cannot understand what he is saying! The Judge Jumps out of his seat and screams..."Get this Man out of my Courtroom!" Two Sheriffs show up and escort me out of the room... No one even said, "thanks for trying"... Civic Duty....

Ya tried Pea, ya tried. I may have raised my hand when they asked "who has a disability?" You may not look at being stone deaf as a disability but a defendant facing 20 to 25 in the slammer may feel you would miss his alibi. But then again, that's just me Pea and I've been accused of being closed minded.

I agree: ya tried, Pea.

I've always wanted to be called for jury duty, although I'm sure I'd be disqualified--I watch too many "real crime" shows!

I've gotten out of jury duty twice 'coz I sent a note from my audiologist saying I wear hearing aids. They don't want our kind around a courtroom, I guess.

Pea and Blaze... I definitely would sue. This is a violation of your civil rights. Where does it state that jurors must have perfect hearing?? Do we eliminate those who can't see?? Not at all. How about those who can't read?? Not at all. I know a guy in Lancaster who will take this suit for a piece of the settlement. He just had his third child and needs a big payday. Let me know, cuz I'm in on the take. Geez!!

have your guys' gal call my gal, Gay. I am ready to fight this discrimination vs hard of hearing people that cannot sign! If I could sign, they would require the Court to hire a "signer" so I could understand.
