As I sit and look at my new i Mac computer, which has been out of service for the past two weeks (not due to the i Mac) I'm thinking of the Challenges my generation has had to face compared to my parents generation. Tom Brokaw wrote a best seller about their generation. Let's compare...
- They had to get through the Great Depression. Most of them were too young to understand how dire times were
- They fought WWII vs Germany & Japan. That was tough!
- After the War they had to adjust to "color TV"
- In the mid 50's they had to adjust to the switch from Stick shift to Automatic transmission
- They had to figure a way to purchase a home worth at least $7,000.00
- They had to figure a way to pay for their kids Book-bill...tuition was Free
- They had one phone & it took only seven turns of the dial to call someone
- They had the luxury of choosing what to watch on TV from THREE choices
- They also had to deal with the A-Bomb potential...that was scary
Now, I think about what My Generation has had to learn/endure/and figure out
- Moon landings
- We have fought the Viet Cong/Chinese/Russians/Serbians/Crazy Middle Easterners
- Cable TV/remote control/VCR/DVD/DVR/i phone/Donkey Kong/texting/answering machines/call waiting/net-flix/etc...etc...etc...
- Computers...anyone figure them out yet?
- GPS/Yahoo/Google/EZ pass/Beach Badges/Facebook/Atari
- Tuition/Student Loans/Safety Seats/School Lunch Programs/Little League Parents
- CABLE TV...
- And Barak Obama!
I could go on. Bottom line? Our generation is putting up a pretty good fight despite what the following generation thinks of our technical skills
