As you will notice, Edward is missing from this Photo. Because he wasn't born yet! The brownish/yellowish photo below the Main photo was my attempt to Scan what Mother wrote on the back of the Main photo. It did not work out but it says...
"Aren't They Great !!"
The Photo says April 1955, obviously Easter Sunday & we all look pretty Great!
Edward arrived just weeks later
P.S. I notice that I am the only Male with a jacket pocket enhancer...Style, Baby! :>)!
(sorry this is long; I got carried away reminiscing)
Easter was such a special day @ 4918:
First, about a week before Easter, there was the "spring cleaning"...windows opened to "air out" the stuffy winter (& "smoke"?); walls & windows were washed; curtains were taken down & laundered. I'll admit, I did NOT enjoy "helping"!
Then the sprucing up & the decorating --a new plant, some flowers or greens in a little vase; usually, Mother created an Easter-themed centerpiece for the dining room table -- to be followed by a gift of an Easter plant(s)from Dad on Holy Saturday afternoon.
In the weeks before, the BMs would have tried on the sport coats to see which coat fit which brother that year. Easter outfits were a must--from new underwear to new socks/new shirt/tie. The BMs would get haircuts, if needed.
Saturday afternoon, we dyed eggs--messy and fun.
On Saturday night, Dad would line up ALL of our shoes & shine them (I can still smell the polish...)
Mass on Easter morning --usually @ 11:15, then home to Easter baskets lined up on the buffet and filled with jelly beans, little chocolate-covered coconut eggs bought from Mrs. Osborne (& I don't know how/why she always had a big box of them), a hollow chocolate bunny, and a large, decorated dark-chocolate-covered coconut egg!
Then there was DINNER! Ham & all the fixings--yum! Often we had company--the Schaeffers? Dessert was usually a delicious cake with fluffy white icing topped with lots of coconut!
A good day for all!
I wonder if today's mothers get ready for Easter the way OUR mother did....?
Dad bought me that coat/pants at The Arrow Store @ 11th & Market Sts. and a tie. Coat was light grey w/ white lines. I had absolutely no say in what coat he picked. He wanted me to have the same hanky Gerry had but I took it out. To the day he died I feared he'd see this pic and yell at me. Don't know where he got the money or if he ever paid for it but it was probably worn by G/M thru h.s.. TJ could never get in it.....by the way, didn't he already have the biggest feet...never ever could anybody wear his shoes. Check his hands, I see concrete dust under his nails. I think Michael tore his pants by 2pm that day. They sure cared.
a great lineup...only made better on May16 of that same year.
A question: click on the photo to enlarge it... does anyone else think Gerry's left hand looks fake?
btw, you can save your own copy of these photos by clicking on them/then click File-Save As/ and save it to your computer somewhere...these shots are valuable.
It is TRUE! If you click on the Photo once, and then once again,it gets Bigger. Gerry's hand does look like the hand Richard Kimbal was after & Timmy's hand is Bigger than Gerry's & Michael's !!!
