Anyway...it is almost Midnight & I have "maintained my position" in front of the TV to report that...
  • The Phils knocked the Braves out of the Post Season

What a great night for baseball!! Yanks lose,Boston loses too! Phils win! What a finish!!, shades of 1951, Bobby Thompson...guess what 19yr old rookie was "on deck" when Thompson hit the "shot heard round the world" ? Anyone know the answer?

Greatest baseball night I have ever seen. It reminded me on the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament. Games ending so close to each other.

Now we face the Master of the Double Switch! LaRussa scares me because he also bats his pitcher in the 8th spot.

Cooker? Was it Tony LaRussa on Deck when Bobby Thompson hit "the shot"?

I dont know about you but am I the only one who has negative flashbacks, for 47 years, EVERYTIME I hear "St. Louis Cardinals". I get visions of Gene Mauch with panic on his face, i see Chris Short and Jim Bunning and STILL expect their arms to fall off.

I can still hear Paul telling Alyce the wedding may have to be postponed due to the Phillies going to be in the World Series. She took it all in stride in her normal cheery, affable way. (She actually didn't but I'm still afraid to tick her off!)

I remember Michael informing me that there was no way I
would get to a World Series game. He would SURELY go since, in his words, "Dad and I are baseball guys". Dad
had just retired from the PD and was working at Globe
Ticket and they were printing the WS tixs. Part of the deal was Dad would get 2 tix for each game. Michael did the
math for me and assured me I was mathmatically
eliminated even if the series went to 15 games. Afterall, again in Michael's words, "You're a football player. "

Why did I believe EVERYTHING he said? I remember the tickets sat around our house for a long time. No sense saving THEM!

The Phils made a big mistake in taking 3 straight from the Braves. The Cardinals have the Phillies intimidated.
