The Lincoln Highway...

U.S. Route 30 (US 30) is an east–west main route of the system of United States Numbered Highways, with the highway traveling across the northerntier of the country. It is the third longest U.S. route, after U.S. Route 20 and U.S. Route 6. The western end of the highway is at Astoria, Oregon; the eastern end is in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Despite long stretches of parallel and concurrent Interstate Highways, it has managed to avoid the decommissioning that has happened to other long haul routes such as U.S. Route 66.
Much of the historic Lincoln Highway, the first road across America (from New York City to San Francisco), became part of US 30; it is still known by that name in many areas.

  • Looks like quite a ride !

I was on a very small portion of the original LH in Nebraska. As I recall it was right off of Rt. 80 and it was brick paved. It is not used today but I got out and walked on it. The guy I was with thought I was nuts.

When we lived in Omaha we would come back to the O'Hares and we only had to make a left, right, left to get on 80 then drive 24 hours and make another left, right, left to get to their house. With a car full of women only I thought that was amazing.

Excuse me Pea, the old Lincoln Highway lives... there is a stretch just outside Phila. up by Neshaminy Mall. Check it out. Used to take you to Greenwood Dairy where you could order a Pig's Dinner (all ice cream) If you finished it (about 6 normal 2 scoop sundaes) they gave you a Blue Ribbon which said "I was a Pig at Greenwood Dairies". Price was steep at $1.99 I got your Big Sis to pay.

Guru! You are correcto! You did take us there but it cost you only Gas Money! The Pig's Dinner was $1.99 but, the Promo was if you could finish it ...then it was free & you got a Badge that said, "I was a Pig at the Greenwood Dairies" ! We don't know what you told our Sis! Those Greenwood Dairy people hated when we drove into the parking lot in your GTO!

"Not one to disagree" but Pea, I ate a couple Pig's dinners (not on same night) and have NO memory of anything FREE. I do remember a button theat said "I was a pig at GD..." Sr. yr. I ate one w/ Ace McCann and we complained about 'just a button'....

Tim: If you were travlling east on Rt. 80 wouldn't yer first turn be a right one to head to Tony O'Hare's ranch???? Jes wondering. Of course you may have exited over the medial strip in yer haste to empty the car......
