...AND, it's a sad day when you have to tell your adult children to NOT bring their phones with them when they come on Christmas day!

I have never once heard a member of the "younger generation" admit or even consider the viewpoint of our generation and say, "you're right,we do look foolish, excessively focused on our electronic devices, while life passes by!"...the photos you have posted, should at least bring a response from some of the younger members of this family...do they not see this as "pavlovian" behavior? I understand some of the social networking and it's role in today's society...but do they not see the excessive dependability, reliance on these devices as perhaps a little "out of whack?"
Went to dinner with my wife the other night...parents next to us brought 2 young beautiful kids with them...they sat down, opened up their laptops (each had one) and proceeded to conduct their business without so much as a glance or conversation with their kids...incredible.. the kids talked with each other, the entire dinner...maddening behavior...Mothers pushing their babies in strollers, holding their device in one hand, texting, whatever..never talking to the kids about the birds, the sky, trees...the sun, the neighborhood they're walking thru...watch them at the sporting events, sitting in the stands, texting, nose down, not even watching the event...behind the dugout, the fifty yard line, under the basket...what are they doing? Family gatherings, dinner, sitting in a bar with friends...I'd like to hear from them.

I agree with you said...

Dear "Observer"--
You probably won't hear from them; they're too busy...........AAGH!!!

You're all just mad because you don't have iPhones! You would be addicted too.

Ahaaa..at last, one comment i would guess from the "youngins'...a clear reference to "addiction" to iphones...we have a breakthrough!

Just as I thought..only 1 comment from the "youngbloods"..back away from your devices y'all! ...true story, 2yrs ago I had a new car, 30days...sitting at a red light, you guessed it, here she comes, texting away, rearview mirrow...slams into me (I'm sitting still)...gets out, starts dialing her parents...cops come, officer comes over to me and says..."let me guess, cell phone?"

No time to reply. Too busy on my cell.... It is an addiction. I long for a time before cell phones, especially smart (iPhones) phones. Alas that is what we face. Try to make the best of it...

Rest easy my friend..the next generation will have micro-chips implanted in their retina..you'll be able to "see messages" immediately and won't have to use your hands...thus leaving you free to "dial or text" at the same time...doubling your addiction! THOUGHT GEORGE ORWELL'S 1984 WAS BAD! hA, HA, HO, HO...
