Good story from Poppy TJ about Parents & kids sports...

TJ's gran-daughter was playing basketball in a 6 to 9 league. Nobody knew the game, nobody could dribble, nobody could shoot. But they had a referee & fans at the game! Poppy TJ says one father kept yelling at the ref to "blow the whistle" at the multitude of violations. The ref ignored him, the father would not let up.

At Halftime the ref approached the idiot father & said, "they're just kids that are trying to learn to play". The idiot father said, "how will they learn the Rules if you don't blow the whistle"?

Second Half starts and one team takes the ball out of bounds. The Ref blows the whistle,"foot on the line he says", other Teams ball. Other team takes the ball out, girl grabs it, takes 3 steps & tries to dribble. Ref blows the whistle, "walking" he says. Other team takes the ball out, Ref blows the whistle, foot on the line! Other Team takes the ball out. Girl catches it and proceeds to dribble with two hands....Violation, the Ref whistles...

The Ref looked at the idiot father and asked, "how soon do you want to go home?"

  • The other parents burst out laughing
  • The idiot father left the Gym to wait in his car...

Those kids could have used a basketball clinic run by the Stoneman!

Last thurs. after school I watched a teacher conduct the first "workout' for 6/7th grades....15 kids had a ball walking, running, shooting the ball while playing a MOB concept defense...still they got off shots from 'wherever'. I waited & told him I loved it.....let 'em learn to love the great game before driving them nuts w/ rules.....every kid was happy & enthusiastic.
