8 year old Eddie's question about The Ed Sullivan Beatle show got me to thinking...

what are my earliest childhood Memories???

  • 1950 (I was 4) Timmy was born (or was it Eddie?) & we could not go in the Hospital. Dad left Alyce in charge & we saw Mother from the street as she waved to us from the 4th floor window. Michael (or was it Timmy?)  did not get to see her because he had fallen through the street grate and was trapped.

  • September 1951 (I was 5) and I remember running the Nuns ragged as I ran through St Ambrose on my 1st day of 1st grade. They couldn't catch me as I ran from the first floor to the second floor, where I hid in the "cloak room"...then back to the first floor.
  • The other kids were going Nuts!
  • Finally, a Nun yelled out, "we are calling your Mother!" and I gave myself up.Mother came & got me. We walked home, crossing the Boulevard at "D" street (where there was no light) and not "C" street...Mother did not want to have to explain to Joe the Park Guard.

  • June 1953 (I had just turned 8) BROKE...er..."hurt" my ankle playing Box Ball when I chased a grounder hit by Anthony Schiambi & just half my foot made it over the curb.
I turned 9 in 1955, the year Eddie was born. Eddie was born in May, same month as me and...
  • Grand mom Falato was visiting our next door neighbors in July while Michael & I were burning ants on the sidewalk with a magnifying glass in the HOT sun when Grand mom missed the railing & tumbled down 13 steps & fell smack dab on my 72 pound back! Causing me to run rampant around "D" street as I attempted to catch my breath while Michael couldn't stop laughing!
  • In 1956 I remember Dad & Alyce arriving home in a Taxi with our first TV.
I also remember in 1956 (I was now 11)  that Adlai Stevenson (a Democrat) was running agains Ike (a Republican) for President. That's when I told Dad & Mother..."I think I am a Republican"

  • I could go on...

I confirm Pea's stories about standing outside the hospital when Eddie was born...it was Tim who fell down the hole ...I remember thinking "that must hurt", when Dad pulled & popped his head between the grates..ouch! I also recall Gerry running in circles, trying to catch his breath when the old lady fell on him...saved her life..but it still makes me laugh, ha,ha..I knew he would eventually breath again! I also remember him laughing at me when he and someone else (John?) handcuffed me to the fence and ran away, laughing!..I remember getting run over by a sled on "suicide hill" and some stranger put me in his car and carried me to our front steps, Mother cried, thought I was dead, ha,ha..hurt like hell, ankle's never been the same!..I remember Mother doing a faceplant in the snow on Boudinot St. on our way to church...we all cracked up laughing, then lifted he out of the snowbank,ha,ha..weird sense of humor huh? She didn't even get mad..great sport that she was!..remember Alyce dancing with the Bannister? Where was Paul?

Not to be difficult here BUT, it most likely wasn't when Eddie was born that i was shoved down the grate by my siblings ( that's how i remember it!) because I was wearing Michael's winter hat with the ear flaps. Eddie was born on May 16th. Global warming wasn't discovered by Al Gore yet, or was that John Kerry, nope it was Gore. So I doubt Alyce would have dressed me in a winter hat. Also, while I'm thinking about it, no way I would wear a hat with ear flaps at 5 years old. Must have been some other reason Mother was in Frankford Hosp. Eddie was born at Doctor's Hosp. Alyce, splain things please.

I know it was Michael's hat because he wanted me to go back down and get it.
