Talking Baseball

Let me get this out of the way before we start about Baseball. Alyce played Cello in the HS Orchestra (not the Band, she would never walk on grass, dirt, streets or March). Alyce also played half court basketball in a skirt. She also jitter-bugged with the stair post.

John played shortstop for The Northeast Boys Club team. These games required us to get in the car & drive quite a distance.  The field (as I remember it) was beautiful. They had green grass, dirt infield, a fence around it, lights and bleacher seats that had to be 20 rows high. In the games I witnessed, John never had an error at shortstop. He also never had a hit, although he did advance a few base runners.

Gerry played from 6th grade through 9th grade. Gerry reached his peak in 7&8th grade when he played 2nd base & Mike McNicholas was the shortstop. We led the league in double plays turned both seasons. (I looked it up on Google). Gerry also batted .322 in 8th grade and had a Home Run off of Kenny Alfred, the most feared left hander in Little League Baseball!

Michael played 3rd base for the City Championship Team coached by our Dad. At 3rd base Michael was like the Windmill you face when you play miniature golf. You know, it keeps turning & sometimes your ball gets through & sometimes it just Stops and nothing happens.  Fortunately, Michael's team had 2 really good pitchers so the other team did not pull the ball to 3rd too often. In addition to 2 good pitchers Michaels team had 3 good hitters. Once again, I looked it up on Google! Jimmy McVeigh hit .546 with 19 Home Runs. Joe Latriciano batted .522 with 27 home runs & Michael McKendry batted .444 with 37 home runs and 102 RBI's! All this was done in a season that consisted of 25 games.

Timmy...I did not get to see Timmy play baseball. I was Seminary-ized &  Military-ized during that time, but that doesn't mean I have not heard tales of Greatness!

During Eddies time I was married with a pregnant wife, in college & a State Store employee, living in Lansdale and could not find GA on a map. So I did not see much of Eddies baseball days, although I wish I would have met Robbie & Monty...

As for my brother-in-law and baseball? He assisted Jackie Seminski in The Championship Season and from a rather low pitching mound, with a 6'4" frame on a cinder field at the Rec he threw the nastiest curve ball I have ever seen! I never made contact.

Even Kenny Alfred didn't have one that good...

The numbers speak for themselves Pea..I rest my case. Kenny Alford was fierce..whew, that boy could bring the heat! I think someone has a film clip of Pea's HR. I'll see if we can track it down. Great stuff Pea!

CORRECTION TO YOUR FAMILY FACTS:

ALYCE PLAYED THE BASS VIOLIN in the Orchestra. Just ask Dutch; he went to my final concert (and slept through my stirring performance. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

PUBLIC APOLOGY
I was informed by the Editor/Censor in Residence that my comment "So your point is?" was " mean". I apologize if it hurt Pea's feelings. But upon further review as Sr. Theresita would say, " What is it you want the reader to "take away with them"?

I took away that Pea was too busy as a high schooler, (I played baseball '62, '63, '64, Pea graduated CD in 64), to watch little brother Timmy set a St. Ambrose record for most errors on 1 play vs Holy Child, and he was NOT defending our country against Vitenamese aggressors during those years.

THERE, I apologized.

I did not know that. And I was not offended. Your wife told you I was offended.
