I own a watch more valuable than 2 Rolexes.

49 years ago my brother Gerry brought this watch home from Viet Nan and gave it to me for my HS graduation.

I wore it from then until about 2005 when it was displaced by an iPhone.

The Seiko has been through concrete, jackhammers, covered in blood, mud, snow and gallons of sweat. It was with me through ditch digging, policing, our wedding, UPS deliveries, childbirths, kids’ weddings and to funerals.

In 2000 a high end Russian jeweler named Effem from a Detroit suburb, one of only a very few watch repair shops
In the world that Rolex sends vintage watches to, asked me why I wear such an “everyday” watch.

I told him what it meant to me. He nodded and said, “THAT is what these high end watches are SUPPOSED to do.”

He then retrieved 2 restored vintage Rolexes. One for me, one for Maureen. He wanted me to take them as a gift from him for helping his business with UPS problems. “Wear these when you go to important occasions.”

I respectfully declined. Told him it was unethical for me and besides I had a watch that has been to my “special occasions”.

Thanks Gerry.
