think it was Feb 3, 1968. You lose perspective of dates & places & time zones & such.
I just remember that we flew Continental Airlines into Bien Hua where we were good
naturedly Hazed by the departing troops on the tarmac.

It was a scary first month in country
before things calmed down.

I have several friends who also served in the VN war and saw genuine live action. I've asked them what was that like in real time. Each one said the same thing, they were scared to the bone but knew they better perform bravely or the alternative would be a disaster. Not hard to understand that. Congratulations brother Gerry....I've always respected your experience.
It's no small thing to have been in a war.
Having binge watched the Ken Burns PBS Series "Viet Nam"...I thought of Gerry, constantly. It took courage just to get on the plane and go..They highlighted the VC attack on the Long Bien military base.. the VC were annihilated. I might be wrong, but wasn't this the base of Gerry's operation?
To this day, I give thanks, Gerry returned home, safely. Being classified 4F, I felt guilty, for not having served..crazy as that sounds..such were the times, back then. My Lottery number for the draft was #4...surely, I would have been drafted.
Forever proud of my brave Brother, for his having served in such an immoral war.
God Bless, the Quiet One!
