Once I get my 8mm video out of storage you will see how easy it is to hit a baseball when you watch yourself and John E during your teener years. Talk about "radio balls" incredible. The only McK who could hit was "Cooker"...
I thought I read that Segura hit a game winning HR.....could be wrong.
PS: nothing your video will show will convince me that I was a hitter. No shame, no embarrassment, just pure unadulterated 'come to Jesus' reality. Remember, it was I who suffered the humiliation of groans when at bat, coming from my own teammates, for two years at NE Boys Club......perfect average, HITLESS, dammit. But I'm over the experience. I could 'pick it' though at shortstop.....YES, Our Cooker could tap it....hard.
PS: story time, of course. Long time ago, my HS teammate, Ed Hockenbury (Pt. guard for Bob Cousy at Boston College), who LOVED baseball & who's brother played minor ball for the A's and later a scout for the Yankees tells me a story. Seems, his brother Bill was just casually stopping by at 5th & Allegheny one night to watch a kids game. That night Michael hit a HR over the right field fence early in the game,,,,hmmmm thinks Bill. He purposely sticks around to watch another AB and guess what? Yep, our dearly beloved MP Mckendry taps one over the left field fence. Bill asks people, 'who is the kid?' and finds it's my little brother. Calls Ed and says I wrote a report to the Yankees to put him on the future list. As Lamarr Pucket says, 'and it's all true'. Now you know theressst of the story of Michael Mantle McKendry. I told Michael the story long ago and often reminded him about it, not that I had too.....
