HOUSTON — Kyle Tucker said he wanted to get this World Series over with quickly, and darned if the Houston Astros right fielder didn’t try his hardest to make it so.
But, well, like just about everyone in baseball, he underestimated the Phillies.
Faced with their largest deficit in the postseason — a five-run hill built on two Tucker home runs through three innings Friday night — the Phillies rallied to win a Game 1 for the ages. They knocked out future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander in the fifth inning. Manager Rob Thomson managed like it was Game 7. And J.T. Realmuto hit a go-ahead solo homer in the 10th inning of a 6-5 victory that will rank among the unlikeliest in the Phillies’ 140-year history.

Ironic. On the day Elon buys Twitter for $44Billion I read an article that Bono...
Took him awhile...but, @62
Bono Has Found What He’s Looking For: Capitalism
"I ended up as an activist in a very different place from where I started. I thought that if we just redistributed resources, then we could solve every problem. I now know that’s not true. There’s a funny moment when you realize that as an activist: The off-ramp out of extreme poverty is, ugh, commerce, it’s entrepreneurial capitalism."
Take out the “ugh” in the last sentence, and that paragraph could have been written for Capital Matters.

Tonight's debate was pretty much embarrassing for the people of Pennsylvania.
ERIE, Pennsylvania—In this highly anticipated debate against Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman was asked to square two conflicting statements: one saying he’s never supported fracking, and another saying he’s always supported fracking.
“Uh, I do support fracking, and, I don’t—I don’t—I support fracking, and I stand, and I do support fracking,” Fetterman said.
As he tried unsuccessfully to square the two opposing sentiments, a debate watch party that’d been largely cheery and jabbing at Oz fell silent.
Some viewers turned to one another, scrunching up their faces and gritting their teeth. One person in the back even let out a groan.

The pitching plan: reported by Jim Salisbury...
The Phils hit three home runs in the 8-3 clinching victory. Brandon Marsh's three-run shot in the second inning was the big one.
But what made the day work was the pitching plan. And the execution of it.
After losing Game 2, Phillies officials knew they'd have to come up with a pitcher for Game 4. With no obvious candidate, they met after Friday's win and came up with six of them.
In what was essentially a bullpen game, a relay race to 27 outs, Noah Syndergaard, Andrew Bellatti, Brad Hand, Jose Alvarado, Zach Eflin and Seranthony Dominguez combined to get those 27 outs. They held the Braves' offense to four hits and three runs, struck out 15 and walked none.
Now on to California...
