CLICK HERE TO VIEW A STROLL DOWN BROAD STREET
Friday, October 31st, 2008 --
8:00 am - Arrive at Beer Distributor... CLOSED! Opens at 10:00am. PA Sucks, CA has beer in the 24 hr. Supermarkets.
8:30 am - Arrive at Pre-Parade Party(With no beer). Luckily my friends had enough
8:45 am - Hear traffic report on KYW - It's a 2 hour delay to get on the in-bound trains.
9:30 am - Leave for Conshohocken Train Station
9:35 am - Conshohocken train station at least 10 people deep waiting for train. People walking away say to us they have been there since 7:45 am and no train had arrived yet. Somehow, a few of my friends beat us to the train station and get on the opposite train going West towards Norristown. At least they are on. We planned on doing the same thing only to be saved by a SEPTA Bus. Bus driver says, "Get on the bus and I'll take you to another bus somewhere in East Falls. The other bus will drive you into the city."
10:15 am - Arrive in East Falls
10:45 am - Board other bus
11:15 am - Arrive at City Hall.
12:00 am - Realize City Hall is way too crowded... decide to ditch the friends with small kids and we start walking down to the Subway system. We walked underground from City Hall to Broad and Walnut. We try to get out through the Subway stairs and all exits are blocked. Somehow, we start walking towards the PATCO exit. This puts us out around 13th and Locust.
12:30 pm - Keep heading South on Broad. We realize we have no beer and are getting exercise, not what we had planned on.
12:55 pm - Meet up with three friends, the guys who took the Conshohocken Train westbound at Broad and Carpenter... they are waiting there with 40's...
1:05 pm - Parade starts to pass us. Pat Burrell leads the parade while sitting on the Anheuser Busch Clydesdale Led Carriage. Pretty cool.
1:30 pm - Main parade passes, we follow as we march down to the stadium.
2:15 pm - Get leveled by a police officer who blindsides me with his baton. He was clearing a path for a Bike Cop... I understand, no hard feelings. My uncle was a Philly Cop, these guys are nuts!!!
3:00ish pm - Finally meet up with 5 other guys who were at the pre-parade party. They had the beer from this morning.
4:00 pm - Arrive at Citizens Bank Park - Enter and watch the ceremonies.
5:15 pm - Leave 10 minutes before Chase curses, jump on Subway and we beat the crowd.
6:30 pm - Arrive in Conshohocken and go shower at my friend's house
8:30 pm - Leave for a Halloween Party dressed as a Whoopee Cushion - ON SEPTA!
2:30 am – Get home and go to sleep…
Very long day but it was worth it... it's been 28 YEARS...

How about if we have a major sporting event without Referees, Umpires, Judges or Stewards? I Love that a 65 to one shot did ...

I loved the photos li'l Pea. "CA has beer 24/7" but what they DON'T have is the World Series Champs!!! The cop that decked you; how big was she?
judy ann & pea tried to get on a train from 10AM 'til 11AM then went home. After looking at the pictures, we are glad we never made it & watched it on TV!
I tip my hat to Jason..a true fan puts up with the crap from the cops and the crowds and Septa..to celebrate with his "peeps"...What a day, what a parade...wish I had been there!
Thanks for sharing the pics, cuz! Bill got some great shots too. The parade was so awesome! But, I think next time I'll just watch it from the bar...less hectic there.
Overall, it was a great experience!!! Besides the fact that I had no cell reception for HOURS. Not good for a REALTOR!!!
Maura
Maura, do you have your cell phone service from that company, "Lancaster Is Us"? LIU...??
Lil'Pea: We'd LOVE to see a pic of you in your whoopie cushion costume. Post it, if you dare!
J: Great job on the slide show! Makes one wonder, though: if everybody was @ the parade, who was minding the store(s)??? Who cares! right?
Mr. Kalstein
Great pictures Jason. Let's hope this is just the first in a string of parades. I am just happy I was able to see it.
