I hung in there for a while, found it humorous, in a vague, cloudy way..so far beyond my understanding. This is what I thought College was supposed to be like..I of course chose, Management 101, Insurance, Industrial Relations and MicroEconomics..which of course set me on a much different road..a road filled with Factories, Production Schedules, Unions, ShiftWork and Grievances..such was my life..Sigh!
You may find it hard to believe but I spent 30 years working at a company FILLED with PhD Chemists. I worked every day with these people and they used words like "organometallics", "hydrides", "organosilanes", "dimethyldoorknobs" and for a while, I had to look like I had some understanding. Eventually, I was able to build good enough relations with these people where I could ask them for a an 8th grade explanation. So, I learned enough to be dangerous but I was always amazed at the academic capacity these people had. The best part is that they thought I was "cool" because I played a guitar. We all have a niche...
I was reading a book written by Malcolm Gladwell. The book is titled "David & Goliath". Organic Chemistry was mentioned. I sorta know what organic means...chemistry can mean a lot of things. I have no idea what the Professor is talking about but I wish I did.
Celebrated California vineyards occupied/managed by graduates of this particular U. of CA......wine fermentation, etc. is a big biz and a college degree is available. I used to think about all the chemistry labs, physics & accelerated math courses taken by all the Orthopedic surgeons I knew....many are also very talented in sports, music, woodworking, etc. What a beautiful gift to be very bright.....of course a great golf game or jump shot will still pay more.
