How many devastating floods has Johnstown had? And how many $$$ Crises' will the Phila School District have in the future?

The Johnstown Flood (or Great Flood of 1889 as it became known locally) occurred on May 31 (MY BIRTHDAY!), 1889. It was the result of the catastrophic failure of the South Fork Dam

  • What is the Johnstown Flood Tax?
The Johnstown Flood Tax is an 18% tax on all wine and liquor sales in the sate of Pennsylvania. It is a "hidden" tax that is not printed on any receipt of purchase.
    How did it come about?
As a result of the "damage from the 1936 (?) Johnstown, PA flood", the Pennsylvania General Assembly imposed an emergency tax on all alcohol sold in the Commonwealth. The "temporary" 10% tax was initially intended to help pay for clean up, recovery, and assistance to flood victims. Though the recovery was assisted by the federal government and completed within six years of the disaster, the tax was never repealed. The tax was raised to 15% in 1963 and to 18% in 1968, where it stands today .
  • I was reading about the Phila School District needing a pledge of $50 million by next Friday or they wouldn't be able to open the schools in Sept. Mayor Nutter agrees & is pleading with the Gov to allow the "temporary" 1% hike in the City's Sales Tax, which is 7%,  to continue. That "Temporary Tax" was to expire next June.

Superintendent threat: $50 million or no school

Returning to the Shishka-Bob theme

this is a photo of the shishka bobs I made tonite

this is a photo of Shishka & Bob at the shishka bob grill-off

and this is a photo of a disappointed Shishka & Bob being Awarded the 2nd Place Prize!

Finn Zee has been vacationing with us the past 3 days...

Will this be too hard to pull off? A competition during Labor Day Weekend.

Labor Day this year is Monday, Sept 2. I am suggesting that we have a Shishka-bob Grill off on either Saturday or Sunday. You and your Assistant Chef(s) can prepare any type of Shishka-bob you like, i.e, beef, chicken, seafood, vega, tooty fruity or whatever. After you prepare it & garnish it & do what you do with it we will have Servers present it to a 3 or 5 Person Panel. The Panel will taste test it & score it. The Panel will not know what Chef prepared the ka-bob! After all the ka-bob entries have been tested & scored we will announce the Winning Chef! The Winning Chef would then be declared "The Best Shish-kabobber to have ever shished a ka-bob on Blossom Hill" !!!

Think something like this can happen? I've done it before and it was a lot of fun. People got very intense and secretive about their recipes ... The Servers were even accused of tipping off the Judges! But in a Fun way...

One last thing...it would be best for all if the kiddies had baby sitters & it were an Adult Only deal.

You have to admit...this is a funny Drudge Report Headline...Bezos is the guy that started Amazon & Washpost was a movie starring The Sundance kid & Dustin Hoffman

Central Park is Man-made? "I did not know that Ed" (think Johnny Carson's voice)

I just read a novel that centers around Central Park and I never knew the history of the place. Very interesting...840 acres of fake stuff...sorta like the Yankees!

21 months I have lived on Blossom Hill...

And still, the only cell phone number of all those that traverse through this abode is Timmy's cell #...

  • So God forbid...if TJ should have a problem & I have no one locally to call...
Can you hear me Now? Now? Now? Now?  Now?

What's up with Iran?
